Animated World of DC Comics: Super Friends vs. Evil From Krypton, a Creature From The Dump, and Aircraft Terror (1981)

Here's a Super Friends short piece, which basically is a case of writers being stuck for an original menace, and tried to improvise one. Thankfully, this "Creature From The Dump" wasn't the inspiration for the "Toxic Avenger".

Edit, 11/29/15: We now have a complete episode, as we've also got "Evil From Krypton" and "Aircraft Terror", the latter also stars the Wonder Twins and Batman & Robin.

Ignore the poster's label on the video. That might've been to keep the copyright police away.

Maybe next time, the local junkyard should be kept under lock & key. The airport, too.

Rating: B.

I swear it's cartoons like this that make people paranoid of everything from toxic waste to radiation to nuclear anything!

This came off to me as being a wee bit cliched, as most of the shorts were at that point. Seeing Batman turned into a monster pro tempore was just a poorly placed plot device.

I think what the problem was during this time was that the writers only went with generic plots and had to come up with a zillion different variations, but not all of them worked.

Too bad they never had the chance to properly address real issues teens had to deal with back then. Instead, you have these generic kids-in-distress stories, you have misguided scientist stories, and yadda, yadda.

Well, The Wonder Twin shorts sort of dealt with that. Offering life lessons like running away from home and taking dares to join a gang being bad ideas.

I meant aside from generic plots like hitching and runaways. I was thinking more in terms of mature content by the turn of the decade.

Unfortunately, the networks and H-B weren't ready to try that sort of thing at the time.
