Tooniversary: Pixie & Dixie and Mr.Jinks (1958)

Pixie & Dixie and Mr. Jinks was a backup feature on The Huckleberry Hound Show, as well as a variant on the Tom & Jerry series that Bill Hanna & Joe Barbera created nearly 20 years earlier for MGM. Only in this case, there are two mice who try to act civilly with Jinks, only to be chased. Occasionally, the trio will team together against a common enemy.

Now, let's take a look at a sample episode, "Meece Missiles":

Edit, 10/16/22: The video has been deleted. In its place is a title card:

Too bad Jinks never starred in a solo story.

Rating: B-.

It would be interesting to know how many people named their cats, "Jinx" after this toon aired!

Even today, I hear people talk about having "meecies" they want in pieces!

Personally, I think Jinxie should have had some sort of truce with Pixie & Dixie. Even Tom & Jerry made amends with one another by the 70s!

As I noted, they would join forces against a common foe, but after H-B gained the rights to Tom & Jerry in 1975, any hope for a similar revival for Pixie, Dixie, & Jinks went out the proverbial window.

Given the distinctive voices of the "meeces", one must assume Pixie & Dixie were cousins?

I always thought Pixie and Dixie were cousins going on the old "city cousin and country cousin" that was popular at the time. Poor Jinxsy. Always one of my favorites. Cartoon Network did do one of those "updated" cartoon bumps with them where the meeses got a restraining order on Mr. Jinks. Pretty funny stuff.

Gotta remember to find that one, though I've a feeling it was written with the same kind of snarky sarcasm as other interstitals......
